Although Martha frequently listed her place of birth as Virginia, I believe that Martha Foster was the daughter of Thomas C. Foster (1766-1849) and Mary Prather (1770-1841). This belief is based on numerous DNA matches in common with the descendants of Thomas C. and Mary Foster with descendants of Martha Foster Davis. If true, this makes it likely that Martha was born in Ohio. She was the youngest child in the family and may have been born Feb. 3, 1807. She married Isaac Davis (1804-1856), son of Meschach (1764-1845) and Nancy Ann Lewis (1770-1832) Davis. Isaac was born in Fayette County, PA. We do not know exactly when or where Isaac and Martha married, but they had their first child Cyrene Jane Davis on Jan. 21, 1824 in Butler County, OH. Isaac and Martha had at least six children (Cyrene Jane, Andrew Foster, Mary Ellen, Ferman D., Helen and Isaac Newton Davis). They likely moved from Ohio to Indiana between 1832 and 1837.
