Owen Richard “Dickie" Gehring was born July 25, 1933 and departed this life Friday, August 16, 2019 reaching the age of 86 years. He was the son of the late Homer and Sally (Richards) Gehring.
He married Juanita Upchurch and to this union four children were born.
He is survived by: two sons, Gerry (Debbie) Gehring and Michael (Cheryl) Gehring; one daughter, Pam (Dana) Minton; eight grandchildren, Byron and Kendra Taylor, Derek and Jeffrey Gehring, Brian (Nicole) and Josh (Kat) Minton, Taylor and Katelyn Gehring; four step grandchildren, Heather and Kara McDonald, Lana and Laura Turner; and four great grandchildren, TJ, Maddie, Kellan and Ebin. He is also survived by: one brother, Joe (Jonnie) Gehring; and one sister, Sherry Threet; one sister-in-law, Sheila Gehring; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents, Homer and Sally Gehring, he was preceded in death by: one son, Barry Lynn Gehring; one grandchild, Trevor Owen Gehring; three brothers, Martin Douglas, Donald Parker, and William Gordon Gehring; and one sister, Nancy Corder; brother-in-law, Collins Threet; and sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Gehring.
He served his country faithfully and was a proud U.S. Army Veteran.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 19, 2019 between 5 pm – 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 2 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by our local DAV Chapter 105.
