William "Bill" Harwood, 72 of Phenix City, Alabama passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia. Family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 2:30 PM in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell Alabama.

Bill was born in Santa Barbara, California on August 10, 1947 to the late Esther Harwood and William A. Harwood, II. He faithfully served his country with the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. Bill was wounded twice during his tour in Vietnam, his decorations, medals, badges, commendations, citations, and campaign ribbons awarded include: National Defense Service Medal, 1 O/S Bar, Sharpshooter (Rifle M-14), Marksman (Rifle M-16), Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/1960 Device.

After his service to his country, Bill settled in the Columbus area where he was a master Transmission Specialist. Bill enjoyed spending time with In Dok Babauta his close companion and confidant for over 20 years. Together they enjoyed spending time traveling the world. Bill also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, riding his motorcycle or just taking it easy with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves his love to, In Dok Babauta; Doris Parker and her husband Steve and family; Ben Babauta and his family and other great friends to cherish his loving memory. Fond memories and condolences may be left for the Harwood family at www.shcolumbus.com.
