Born in Portland, Maine on March 13, 1949, he was the son of the late Clifton and the late Ruth (White) Watson. After graduating from Cape Elizabeth High School in 1967, Kip joined the U.S. Navy and spent four years serving his country on three different ships. Shortly after Kip's discharge from the Navy, he met his beautiful wife of forty-four years, Jan.
In 2009 Kip was diagnosed with stage IV tonsil cancer; he would spend the next ten years courageously battling the cancer and all of the harmful aftereffects of radiation to his head and neck, including Alzheimer's.
Kip enjoyed spending time with his family, and especially enjoyed any time with his four grandchildren. He also loved listening to music (especially the Beatles), feeding the birds, taking pictures and watching the Patriots.
Kip will be sadly missed by his wife, Janice (Arsenault) Watson; his two daughters, Kimberly Watson (Mary Bristol) of Scarborough, Maine; and Kelly Shangraw (Keith) of Wells, Maine; his sister, Meredith Ford (Tony) of Windsor, Conn.; his two brothers, Chandler Watson (Jean) of Milford, Mass., and Peter Watson (Jacque) of Lyons, Colorado; his four grandchildren, Hannah, Owen, Aubrey and Violet; and also by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Andrea.
