A Glimpse of the Life of
ELNORA WILLIAMS

The life of Elnora Williams is amazing and inspiring. Elnora was affectively known as Mommy, Grandma, Auntie, Aunt Cook and Ms. Williams. Elnora had a deep love for her children, grandchildren, sisters, brother, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. She was the eighth child out of nine, with eight being the number of new beginning. On Thursday, March 19, 2015 at JFK Medical Center surrounded by her family Elnora transition into eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Elnora was born in Summerton, South Carolina to the late Frank and Lucille Starks on May 6, 1927. When Elnora was living in Summerton she attended Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir with her sisters. She had a love for gospel music all her life, especially on Sunday mornings, while preparing Sunday dinner's for her family. At 12 years old, Elnora and her family moved to Belle Glade from Summerton, SC. She always talked about when she came to Belle Glade there was only dirt roads. The entire Starks family moved to the Big House on Wedgeworth farms. This is where all the Starks family lived until moving into the City of Belle Glade. The Starks family always stayed together. The family lived at the Roof Garden, Ms. Lillie building and behind Tiny's store on Sixth Street. The girls were never too far from each other.

As Elnora grew older she met the love of her life. A tall dark handsome man named Sammie Lee Williams, who was recently discharged from the Army, after serving in World War II. Ironically, Sammie Lee was from Summerton, SC. As they began to talk they both realized that Elnora knew Sammie Lee's father and all of his siblings, but she never knew Sammie Lee. Elnora and Sammie were married until his death in 2005 for over 60 years. It was from this Holy Matrimony the Williams Family grew. Elnora believed in several things, but the one thing she song to her children was to get an education. Elnora and Sam was not afforded the opportunity to attend school as they wanted, therefore they instilled the importance of getting an education to their children. They both worked hard in the local fields of Belle Glade to provide for their family. They traveled to Salisbury, MD; Allentown PA; Dover, DE and Allentown, NJ working in apples, strawberries, potatoes and beans. Whatever their hands found to do they did it for their children.

Elnora and her husband loved fishing and growing vegetables in their garden. They shared all their fish and food from the garden with their family and neighbors. The bible teaches us in Mark 12: 30-31: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." This is what Elnora did, she loved her neighbors. Such neighbors as the Mr. and Ms. Roosevelt Blackmon, Pastor Edwin and ML Coffey, Mr. and Ms. Leroy and Julia Carrigan, Mr. and Ms. Anton Russell and Ms. Eva P. Oliver were the neighbor among neighbors fulfilling Mark 12: 30-31 in their lives. Elnora loved to talk to people passing by under her garage, this was her social life. She loved telling stories of her childhood, she was Belle Glade historian and always had something smart to say, to make you laugh. She loved to joke and see people laugh. Elnora would help anybody that needed a helping hand, no matter the cost. This is the legacy she leaves for her family. She would want her children to love each other as Christ has loved the church. Elnora had no problem giving her last to help a stranger or friend. Three years ago she went to her daughter house for Thanksgiving dinner, got in her bed to rest and remained with her until the Lord called her to her eternal rest.

In August, 2014 Elnora began to call on the Lord her God like never before. She would praise him all night long by saying Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, thank you Jesus. She asked for forgiveness not only to the Lord, but to any she felt she needed to ask forgiveness. Elnora and Vernell had church service every night. They studied the word of God, prayed and did praise and worship every night.

Again, on Thursday, March 19, 2014 at JFK Medical Center Elnora transitions to eternal life with Christ with her family by her side singing her favorite gospel songs, praying and reading God's divine word. She leaves with wonderful memories of her husband, Sammie Lee Williams who preceded her in death; Children: Charlie Lee Williams of Miami, FL, Vernell Williams-Desrosier of Belle Glade, FL; Gary (Yolanda) William of West Palm Beach, FL; Norman Lee (Gwendolyn) Williams who preceded her in death and one adopted daughter Angela Lavender of Belle Glade, FL.
