PANAMA CITY, Fla. — Robert L. Dorsey, 91, entered peacefully into rest Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019, at Sims State VA Home in Panama City, Fla., where he had made his home the past few years.

“Bob” was born Jan 16, 1928, in Barbour, W.Va., the son of the late Clyde T. and Verle Arbogast Dorsey.

On Nov. 16, 1947, he was united in marriage with Sylvia Solinger; they shared 60 years of marriage before her death in 2007. They resided in Champion, where he was very active in the community and also was a volunteer fireman and medic.

Bob retired in 1980 from LTV Steel, where he was also a founding member of the Warren-Niles Republic Credit Union. He attended Faith Baptist Church in Niles.

He loved his birth state of West Virginia and bought a “summer” home in the woods of Hacker Valley. He enjoyed and loved his friends and family in West Virginia.

Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran, enlisting in 1945 and was proud of his service to our country and also being part of an extended military family.

One significant highlight of his life was when his grandson, Brian (U.S. Army) escorted him on a World War II Honor Flight from Dothan, Ala., to visit the World War II Memorial and Arlington Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

His memory will be cherished by his children, Thomas, residing in Panama City, Fla., Darlene (Patrick) Cavaliere and Bob Jr. (Kris); also nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Nancy; and brothers-in-law, Roland Taylor and Theodore Douglas.

Preceding him in death were his brother, James, and wife, Geraldine Dorsey; and sisters, Mary Douglas and infant, Betty Jean.

Arrangements and cremation are being entrusted with Southerland Funeral Home in Panama City, Fla.

There will be a private service at Crown Hill Burial Park and Chapel in Vienna.
