She was born March 1, 1916, in Central Islip, N.Y., a daughter of the late Joseph and Anne (Finnegan) Lowe.
She was a graduate of Central Islip High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business education from College Misericordia, Dallas Township. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in Dallas on Feb. 2, 1943, and at her reception was given the religious name Sister Miriam Eileen. She later reverted to her baptismal name of Monica and pronounced her vows on Aug. 16, 1945. Sister Monica taught in several elementary and high schools in the dioceses of Scranton, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Rockville Centre, N.Y. She also served in the medical records office at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre and on the staff of Mercy Center, Dallas. Most recently she was in the prayer ministry at Mercy Center.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, Ambrose and Frank Lowe.
Surviving are sisters, Mary Moloney and Edith Johnston, both of Central Islip, N.Y.; a niece and nephew; and the Sisters of Mercy of the Dallas Regional Community.
Transferal to Mercy Center will be Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at 1:30 p.m., followed by a Wake Service in Blessed Sacrament Chapel. The viewing will be from 1:30 to 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
