Born in Providence on February 26, 1917, Mr. Duffy was a son of the late Michael J. and Margaret (McEnaney) Duffy. He was raised in the Hebronville Section of Attleboro, educated in Attleboro and was a graduate of Attleboro High School.
Mr. Duffy was a Scout Master of Troop #9 at St. Stephen’s Church in Attleboro and coached C.Y.O. and Little League in Norton. Matthew also played baseball in the Twilight League at Capron Park in Attleboro.
Years ago he was employed at the Defiance Bleachery located in the Barrowsville Section of Norton, the Teknor Apex Company in Hebronville and later was employed for thirty-four years at a meter reader for Massachusetts Electric, now National Grid, retiring in 1978.
Mr. Duffy enjoyed sailing on Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island and loved the “Shack” at his nephew’s home in Hebronville.
Matthew is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Duffy was the last surviving sibiling in a family of four boys and five girls. He was predeceased by three brothers: Francis Duffy, John Duffy and Raymond Duffy; and five sisters: Mable McGrath, Agnes McGarrity, Genieve Remmington, Helen Perreault and Marguerite Corbett.
Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, March 22, 2007 from 5 PM – 8 PM in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro. A funeral will be conducted on Friday, March 23, 2007 at 9 AM from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street, Attleboro celebrated by the Rev. Cyriac Mattathilanickal, M.S.
