Christine Alexander Brooks, 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2019.

Christine was born to Sutorius Alexander and Mamie Nall Alexander in Pensacola on February 16, 1922. She is survived by three children, Charlene Bogan, Carol Dougherty (Joe) and Garry Brooks; three grandchildren, Christopher Bogan (Laura), Ben Bogan and Anna Trezzi (Peter); three great grandchildren, Winston Bogan, Ariel Trezzi and Tristan Trezzi; and a nephew, Eugene Irwin.

Christine was a strong presence in Pensacola, having raised a family and worked tirelessly in the hospitality industry for 45 years. She started her career at the Hotel San Carlos, formerly a major historic landmark in Pensacola. Later in her career, she was dining room manager at the renowned Martine’s Restaurant in West Pensacola. While employed at Martine’s, she was awarded Miss Hospitality of Escambia County for her outstanding contribution to the hospitality industry.

Christine is remembered as a genuinely warm and kind person who happened to have a delightful sense of humor. She spread joy and laughter among all those who knew her. Her infectious personality transformed strangers into friends. She could start a party spontaneously when she put on a favorite tune by Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, or Elvis Presley. Christine was a treasure trove of memories. Her heartfelt and comical stories of past events in the family and community frequently entertained friends and family at gatherings.

Christine always expected the best in people. Life’s challenges were met with resilience, spunk and a “can-do” attitude. The family reminisces about her strong, independent spirit, describing her as an “amazing Grand Dame.” She was well loved and a blessing to all.

Visitation will be held 1:00pm until the Funeral Service at 2:00pm Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Private interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Darlene Sanders and the staff at The Waterford at Carpenter’s Creek for the care provided to Christine over the past year. The family especially appreciates the loving care given by Adam and Sabrini of Emerald Coast Hospice.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Emerald Coast Hospice.
