Marcus Graves, 74, died at the Converse County Memorial Hospital on July 13, 1965 after a long illness. He was born at Guilford, Missouri on July 2, 1891, the youngest son of the late Rufus L. and Ellen M. Graves. At the age of 14 years, he came with his parents and sister by way of covered wagon to Kirk, Colorado where he grew to manhood. Mr. Graves entered the service of his country in 1916 when the Colorado National Guard of which he was a member was called to duty to serve on the Mexican border. During World War I, he served with the 157th Infantry, 40th (Sunshine) Division and was sent to France in 1917, where he served until April, 1919. After he was discharged he came to Douglas where his parents had moved to make their home. Later he homesteaded 7 miles north of Douglas and has made his home here since that time. Mr. Graves is survived by one sister, Mrs. Bessie A. Liming of Kirk, Colorado and fifteen nieces and nephews including Marc Graves and Mrs. Art Hill of Douglas.
