Bruce William Buchanan


Valdese, N.C. - Bruce William Buchanan, 76, of Hildebran, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 1, 2007, at College Pines Nursing Center following a period of declining health.

Mr. Buchanan was born July 30, 1930, in Mitchell County to the late Lynn Buchanan and Hattie McClurd Buchanan.

He was formerly employed by Maulding Vending Co. (Tom's Peanut Co.), and was part owner and operator of B & M Hardware in Connelly Springs. He was a faithful and active member of Abee's Chapel Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir, the assistant choir director and served many years as an adult Sunday school teacher. He also served as the former treasurer for the Burke County Camp Meeting.

Bruce will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph Buchanan, Millard Buchanan, Robert Buchanan and Tarp Buchanan.

Survivors include his wife, Jewel Shell Buchanan of the home; four children, the Rev. Dewayne Buchanan and wife, Barbara, and Richard Buchanan and wife, Sophia, all of Connelly Springs, Tim Buchanan and wife, Linda, of Reeds, Mo., and Revonda Yarbrough and husband, Mike, of Valdese; grandchildren, Mickey, Renee, Amy, Micah, Keith, Andy, Joseph, Casey and Dean; eight great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, A. Denver Buchanan of Rutherford College and Henry Buchanan of Connelly Springs; and four sisters, Maggie Butler of Valdese, Edna Gilliland and Lillian Burleson, both of Connelly Springs, and Gail Wise of Hickory.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at 6:30 p.m. at Abee's Chapel Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Revs. Buddy Sizemore and Dewayne Buchanan.

Interment will follow in Abee's Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
