Margret “Margie” Rita Sliwinski was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 12, 1920 to John and Katherine (Dolecki) Koper. She met the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Sliwinski at a dance hall in Detroit where he saw her do what she called a fire dance and he was immediately smitten. On October 17, 1942, they eloped in San Antonio, Texas before Joe was shipped overseas to serve his country during World War 2. After the war, they made their home in the Detroit area and raised their son, Kenneth.
Margie loved dancing, playing cards, cooking, baking and was talented at many crafts. She also took great pride in her Polish Heritage.
After Joe retired, they moved to Port Richey, Florida where they were founding members of the Polish American Social Club of Pasco (County). She danced a Polka every Sunday at the club until she turned 90. She was on the executive board and an active member of the organization until a few years before her death when a serious fall kept her homebound.
She is survived by her sister, Catherine Palmer Cox; her 3 grandchildren, Larissa (Daniel) Flynn, Errin Sliwinski, and Brandon Schadler; her 2 great grandchildren, Aidan Flynn and Tristan Sliwinski, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Joe, her son Kenneth and her siblings and their spouses, Helen (Joe) Stempien, Lottie (Harry) Nowakowski, Walter (Vera) Koper, Edward Koper, Norbert Koper, Edwina “Dorothy” (Tony) Zuzga, Gertrude (Joe) Novak, John Koper, Raymond (Elvera) Koper, Barney (Margie) Koper, Irvin (Sophie) Koper, and infant brother, Antoni Koper.
Her cremains will be buried in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, with her beloved husband.
