Howard was born Howard Sylvanus Williams to parents William Sylvanus and Kate (Hughes) Williams. After his mother died when he was still an infant, he was "adopted" by his mother's brother John E and Sarah (Llewellyn) Hughes of Passaic. He lived in Passaic and died at age 19. In his obit he is Howard W Hughes and is buried with adopted parents at Cedar Lawn.
