NEWPORT NEWS - Elmer Ray Moore "Emo," 87, passed away peacefully at home August 9th. Born in Hazard, KY, he was a Peninsula resident for decades serving in the Army-Air Force, and then worked for Civil Service at Ft. Eustis until retirement. An expert archer, Emo was a member of the Warwick Bowman & the Virginia Bowhunter's Association, & by 1970 his titles included Virginia State, Eastern Regional, Mid-Atlantic, US Open National, World Try-Out finalist, & World Champion in Cardiff, Wales. Emo also co-owned the Archer's Specialty Shop in Newport News for several years.

Preceding Elmer in rest is his parents, Lily Shumake Moore & Leonard Moore; he is survived by his wife Audrey of 67 years; two sons, Steve & Doug; 4 grandchildren (Kerri Ripley, Ryan Moore, Danny Wilson, & Jennifer Buchanan); 2 brothers; 4 sisters; 6 great grandchildren & 1 great great grandchild; and many nieces & nephews.

Elmer's Celebration of Life begins 1pm, August 16th at Peninsula Funeral Home with internment immediately following at Peninsula Memorial Gardens officiated by Bishop William McCarty.
