Wilma Irene Wade, 69, of Garden City died Wednesday, Aug 3 at Cass Medical Center. She was born Oct 2, 1924, in Urich, the daughter of Russell and Eula Thelma Hurt Mickelberry. She lived near Ballard before moving to Garden City in 1940.
On Jan. 1, 1961, she married James Robert Wade in Garden City.
She was a 1959 graduate of Aladdin Beauty College in Kansas City. Mrs. Wade owned and operated Wilma's Beauty Shop in Garden City from 1961 until retiring in 1986.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Garden City.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Douglas "Jamie" Purkey on Sept. 3 1978, and a brother, Billie G. Mickelberry.
Surviving are her husband, James R. Wade of the home; two sons, Richard D. Purkey and Rodney C. Purkey, both of Harrisonville; two daughters, Sherrie Madeiros, Simi Valley, Calif., and Sheila Stadler, Adrian; a brother Jimmy A. Mickelberry, Kansas City; a sister, Patricia A. Arnold, Adrian; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Dickey Chapel in Garden City, with the Rev. John Kukovich officiating. Casketbearers were Michael Kimberlin, Jeff Mickelberry, Chris Miller, Bill Mickelberry Jr., Randy Mickelberry and Shannon Purkey. Honorary casketbearers were Terry Brunner Jr., Jerald Murphy, Grant Spinning and Leroy D. Russell. Burial was in the Garden City Cemetery.
