James R Grafton died Saturday, April 20, 2002. He was born Sept. 3, 1925, in Moline, to Bryan and Mabel (Ryan) Grafton. He married Barbara Circle in 1947. She preceded him in death in 1984. He graduated from Moline High School (where he was a member of the basketball team that took 2nd in state in 1943) and the University of Iowa, where he lettered in basketball. He purchased Blackhawk Foundry, Davenport, in 1968, and has been chairman of the board since 1982. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. His memberships include Christ Episcopal Church, and the American Foundryman Society. He was a Moline Dad's Club baseball coach, Eagle Scout at age 13, and Garfield School Boy Scout Troop Master. Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church or Christian Friendliness. He was on the Park Board for 20 years. During his presidency the Ben Butterworth Parkway was developed and named after the previous president, and Jim's mentor, Ben Butterworth.
