Robert Earl Kile Sr. of Charlotte, NC died Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center Main. He was born September 12, 1925 in Berwick, PA, son of Cletus and Hazel Hirleman Kile. Most of his early life was spent in Elizabeth, NJ, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School. He served his country during World War II as a radio operator on B-17 and B-29 bombers in the Pacific Theatre. During the latter days of the war, he was based on Iwo Jima. In 1951, he graduated from Rutgers University School of Journalism. Having worked in the New York City area for several years he was transferred to Charlotte with the Kendall Company in 1962. Following his retirement in 1990 from American Credit/Barclays, he moved to Yancey County, returning to Charlotte in 1999. Bob especially enjoyed his time as a leader of student groups with Junior Achievement and his volunteer hours at the Samaritan House. He shared his knowledge of business, teaching evening classes at CPCC. He had great admiration and utmost respect for the fire and police departments and for their assistance to him personally over the past years. He was a member of his beloved Myers Park Baptist Church.

Bob leaves his wife of 57 years, Olive Muir Kile, daughter, Janet Kile Freeman and husband Charles Ladd Freeman Jr., of Winston-Salem, son, Robert Earl Kile Jr., of Charlotte, grandchildren, Elizabeth Freeman Buchanan and husband, Shawn Buchanan, Catherine Muir Freeman and Charles Ladd Freeman III and his great-grandchild, Sawyer Ladd Buchanan.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010 in the sanctuary of Myers Park Baptist Church with The Reverend Dr. H. Stephen Shoemaker and The Reverend Gary Hudson officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception in the Cornwell Center Lounge on the church campus following the memorial service.
