Donald R. Lowe, 96, of Terre Haute passed away early Saturday morning, August 10, 2019 in Union Hospital. Donald was born January 28, 1923 in Trenton, NJ to Gus G. Lowe and Eva Mae Lowe.

He was a retired Railroad Engineer having worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central Railroad and Conrail.

His wife, Mary Ellen, preceded him in death in 2013.

Survivors include his two children and their spouses, Rebecca and Frank Steele of Terre Haute and Thomas and Dianne Lowe of Crawfordsville, IN; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Lowe of Crawfordsville, IN; and seven grandchildren, Kristi Sowder (Mike), Elizabeth Knestrick (Nathan), Jason Lowe, Mary Benge (Steven), Michael Steele, Gregory Steele (Ashalynn) and Thomas Steele. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren, Megan Sowder, Kaylie Sowder, Madelyn Sowder, Kaden Sowder, Vivian Knestrick, Cecelia Knestrick, Bennett Benge and Caiden Steele; a niece, Barbara Kraus; and a nephew, David Lowe (Christine).

In addition to his parents and his wife, Donald was also preceded in death by a son, Gregory Lowe; and a brother, Granville C. Lowe.

Donald was graduate of Wiley High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Retired Railroaders and Brotherhood of Railroad Engineers. Don loved being outdoors working around the house and in the yard, and taking care of his beloved cat, Egbert.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 17, 2019 with visitation from 10:00-11:00 A.M. in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 215 North 7th Street, with The Reverend Drew Downs officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
