Funeral services for Bernice Irene Stapleton (Mrs. John B. Stapleton), 89, of Lubbock and formerly of San Angelo, were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2003 in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Roger Sidner officiated.

Burial was held in the Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home of San Angelo.

Mrs. Stapleton passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2003 in Lubbock.

She was born on October 12, 1913 in Rochester, Haskell County. She moved to Floydada in 1928 and graduated from Floydada High School in 1932.

She married John B. Stapleton in Floydada on December 25, 1941.

She worked at Texas Utilities Company. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in San Angelo.

She had recently moved to Lubbock and was living at the Ventura Place.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Patton; and by one brother and sister.

Survivors include a son, John B. and Setsuko Stapleton of San Antonio; a daughter, Sandra and Edd Waggoner of Lubbock; a sister, Nell McClung of Floydada; one brother, R. C. Patton of Snyder; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Grandchildren were pallbearers: Mika and Randy Stowers of San Antonio, Irene Leake of San Antonio, Laura Poteet of Lubbock, Susan and L.V. Currey of Canyon, John and Joy Waggoner of Amarillo and Joe Edd Waggoner of Lubbock. Honorary pallbearers were the great-grandchildren.
