Gerald F. Fischer, 81, passed away while skydiving on Saturday, August 10, 2019 in Marion, Montana.

Gerald “Jerry” Francis Fischer was born on December 25, 1937, to Alex and Ruth (Abbott) Fischer in Moorhead, Minnesota. He grew up in Moorhead and attended Moorhead High School where he excelled in wrestling.

Following high school, Jerry enlisted in the Army and proudly served in the 101st Airborne. After his service, Jerry worked as shop supervisor for Silverline Manufacturing in Moorhead and it was there he met Lola Perkins. They were married in 1967 and made their home in Dilworth, Minnesota. Lola passed away in 1992.

Jerry managed the warehouse for Bergseth Brothers in Fargo, North Dakota, until his retirement but stayed on as a part-time trucker. He was also a facilitator for Beginning Experience. In 2000 he met Laurie Eli and they were married in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 2008. They lived in Dilworth, Minnesota, and later moved to Moorhead.

Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, bird watching and loved spending time at Tamarac Wildlife Refuge. He was also passionate about skydiving, where he was known as “Fish”, and completed 2,549 jumps. Jerry also holds several state and world skydiving records.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Laurie; daughter, Julie (Fischer) Sharff and her children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lola; grandson, Whitley Sharff and sister, Charlotte “Charlie” Cossette.
