Dr. James Alfred Long. Son of Col. William Henry Long and Susan Faucette Battle of LaGrange, Troup County, Georgia. Received a medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia. Married Sallie Curtis Griggs, m. Sept. 15, 1851.

Surgeon. Achieved the rank of Major, Company K, 13th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Evan's Brigade, Gordon's Division of the Army of Northern Virginia. Enlisted after Fort Sumter. Fought at the battles of Manassas, Sharpsburg (Antietem), Chancellorsville, Winchestor and Gettysburg. Resigned from service in the military on March 1, 1864, due to injuries he received in the war. Served in the Georgia state legislature from 1863 to 1865.[2]

Emigrated to Texas in 1877, where he died.

Place of burial unknown.[3]
