" Susan Garrison departed this life Tuesday, Nov. 20, 1900 at her home in Kent Township. Deceased was born in Butler County, Ohio on the 26th of January 1826. While a small girl her parents moved to Indiana, where she has since resided. In 1843, she was married to Joseph Steely and to them were born four children, G. M. Steely, Mary E. Magruder, Rebecca J. Hefferman and Eliza B. Steely. All are living except the latter who died in her childhood. Her husband died in 1852. She then married Parson Garrison and to this union one child was born, Zephnire Garrison. She leaves a husband, two sons, two daughters and three brothers, with a host of relatives and friends to mourn her untimely departure. She was a friend to the poor and sick and was always willing to lend a helping hand, of times neglecting her own household duties to wait upon the sick. She expressed herself as prepared and willing to die. She was laid to rest in the Gopher Hill Cemetery, aged 74 years, 9 months and 24 days." - West Lebanon Gazette, West Lebanon, Indiana, November 29, 1900
