Zephyrhills - Zephyrhills, FL - David B. Dow, 73, died peacefully at home with family at his side on March 25, 2019. Son of Nevers Richard Dow and Edith Faulkner Dow, David was born in Houlton, ME, on October 23, 1945.
He graduated from Hodgdon High School in 1963 and then served 3 years in the United States Army, including service in Vietnam during the war. In 1968, David married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Putnam, and they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. David earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Husson College in 1972 and was a career employee in the Fraser Paper, Ltd., Accounting Department in Madawaska, ME. On a part-time basis after retirement, he provided mediation services in Madawaska and Fort Kent courts.
Being an avid sports fan, David coached various community and school sports teams in Madawaska and St. Agatha, ME, and was certified as an Aroostook County Basketball Referee and Baseball Umpire. Membership in community organizations included the American Legion in Madawaska, ME, the VFW in Frenchville, ME; Masonic Lodges in Fort Kent, ME, and Edmundston, NB; and various golf courses.
David retired in 2000, and he and Cheryl moved to Betmar Owners Community in Zephyrhills, FL, in 2015. As a retiree, his days were spent enjoying family, golfing, playing cards, following sports teams, and listening to country music.
Dearly loved by his family, daughter Edith describes her dad as her "Hero," and grandson Austin thanks David for being "my friend, mentor, golf partner, coach, and, most importantly, my grandfather."
David was predeceased by his parents and an older brother Richard.
Honoring David's wishes, there will be no funeral. Arrangements for final requests were made through Coastal Cremations, Zephyrhills, FL. A celebration of life and inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gulfside Hospice in Zephyrhills, FL, or any Aroostook County (Maine) town's recreational program.
David's family remains forever appreciative to Gulfside Hospice and its personnel for their compassion, respect, and expertise.
