Charles Bean Amory, Sr. was one of the children born to Jonathan Amory and his wife Letitia Austin. Charles served his country during the US Civil War, enlisting on 2 Sep 1861, and serving as a 1st Lieutenant in in Company F, Massachusetts 24th Infantry Regiment . He mustered out on 18 May 1864. Charles then became a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Volunteers Adjutant Genl Dept Infantry Regiment on 18 May 1864. He was promoted to Brevet Major on 13 Mar 1865 and mustered out on 09 May 1865.

Charles was united in marriage twice during his life-time: first, on June 16, 1868 in Adams County, Mississippi to Emily A. Ferriday. Emily passed away in Morristown, Illinois on July 31, 1879. She was one of the children born to William Ferriday and his wife Helen Catherine Smith. And second, on April 3, 1881 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Elizabeth Edmondson (Lily) Kercheval Clapp.
