He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, where he served as Director of Traffic Engineering and Operations. He served three years in London, England for W. S. Atkins, as a consultant on transportation studies for Manchester and Cardiff. He previously worked for the South Eastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as Land Use and Transportation Study Director and also worked in Cincinnati, Ohio as Assistant Traffic Engineer and Superintendent of Airport and Electrical Services. He began his career in Hamilton, Ohio as the Traffic Commissioner for that city.
He received his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He also attended Yale University graduate school, earning a Certificate of Traffic Engineering. He served as an officer and platoon leader in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Korea, where he earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. At discharge, he held the rank of Second Lieutenant.
Surviving are his wife Selby M. Doughty, daughter Heather Doughty of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, son Jon Doughty of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and son Andrew Doughty and his wife Ellen Doughty and her daughter, Lizzy Swam, of York, Pennsylvania. They will all miss his blue eyes, his wonderful smile, and his keen sense of humor.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11AM on August 15, 2019 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Twp.
