BABEL, Nellie I. (Kingsley) - Age 96, of Bancroft, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2007 at Oliver Woods Retirement Village in Owosso. Nellie had owned and operated the Kingsley Variety Store in Bancroft for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 4 at the Bancroft United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeremy Peters officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Owosso. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9PM at the Love Funeral Home in Bancroft.

Nellie was born in Saginaw County on December 6, 1910, the daughter of Ernest and Nettie (Woodruff) Walter.

She attended Owosso High School. She married J. Harold Kingsley on August 25, 1928 in Corunna. He passed away on July 25, 1977. In March, 1985 she married Leonard Babel.

She lived in the Bancroft area most of her life, and was a member of the Bancroft United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Bancroft Monday Study Club. She was skilled at working with many crafts, including knitting, crocheting, and making pressed flower stationery from her many garden flowers.

Nellie is survived by her husband, Leonard; 5 children, Barbara (Stanley) Eddy of Bancroft, Carl (Janice) Kingsley of Ocala, Florida, Leon (Gayle) Kingsley, of Bancroft, Joanne Tattersall of Durand, and Eva (Leslie) Drlik of Durand;16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Shirley (Ed) Nachazel of Reston, Virginia; 4 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Grill of Byron; sister-in-law, Maxine Walter of Zephyrhills, Florida and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, J. Harold Kingsley and a grandson, David Eddy. Memorials may be made to the Bancroft United Methodist Church.
