GREENSBORO Laura Kathryn McGavock Holley, 49, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 11. Our precious Laura Kathryn is with her Lord.

Born in Biloxi, MS to Kelly and Lavonne McGavock, she touched (and will still be touching) innumerable lives because of who she was and how she loved. Laura loved her family with a fierce, uncompromising love, especially her sons, Jonathan and Joshua and her step-son, Jordan. She loved our beloved Caldwell Academy where she started as a "Caldwell parent," played the piano for choirs, was an enthusiastic "Eagle Club" member, served on the board and so much more.

A gifted pianist, she earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and went on to the Peabody Conservatory for her master's degree. She moved to Greensboro and taught piano at the Music Academy of North Carolina (then the Greensboro Music Academy), moving into administration to eventually become the executive director. While there, Laura was on the steering committee that formed the Guilford Non-Profit Consortium, which is now an indispensable resource for all non-profits in the Triad.

Restoration Place Counseling was the next organization to benefit from her amazing creativity and love, where she became director of development.

All along she was the best friend to her husband, David, and her fingerprints were always present on anything he ever produced at UNCG or Greensboro Opera. She began working with GO on donor management, special events, organization efficiency and was David's greatest asset.

Always looking to serve and use her gifts for the Lord, she sought other places to impact people's lives, serving in the music ministries at Westover Church, Trinity Church and City Church, and she recently began consulting for Family Support Network of Central Carolina and A Special Blend coffee shop.

Laura was predeceased by her beloved grandma, Virginia Farmer, and is survived by her husband David, Greensboro: her sons Jonathan and Joshua; her step-son Jordan (Madison), Atlanta; her parents, Kelly and LaVonne McGavock, Gulfport, MS; brother Mark (Jennifer) Water Valley, MS; sister Lisa Rawlings, Greensboro; nieces Kathryn Hashemi (Saber), Greensboro, and Rebecca and Savanna McGavock; uncles Mike Farmer, Gulfport, Robert McGavock (Edna), Chattanooga, Don McGavock (Carolyn), Parksley, VA, Bill McGavock (Georgia), Roanoke, VA, Jim McGavock (Louise), Staunton, VA; cousin Rodney Farmer (Marie), Gulfport; numerous cousins, and her beloved doxies, Scooter and Ginger (Greensboro).

We will celebrate her life on Saturday, August 18 at 11 a.m. at Westover Church, with visitation at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home on Friday evening, August 17 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Interment will be private following the service. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Laura's honor to Caldwell Academy and/or Greensboro Opera. Online condolences may be offered at www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com. Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel is assisting the Holley family.
