On Sunday morning, September 16th, 2018, Cornelia Pratcher Baker, affectionately known as “Nana”, entered into eternal rest with our Lord at the age of 94.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday September 22, 2018 at Forbis & Dick N. Elm Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Burial will be at a later date.

Cornelia Pratcher was born in Greensboro, AL, on March 9th,1924, to the late Edward and Celia Pratcher. She was baptized as a little girl in Alabama and lived a life of excellence that was portrayed in her lifelong Christian service. Mother Baker was a beloved member of Elim Christian Fellowship of Greensboro, NC, where she was called “Queen Mother” by her Pastor Terry E. Warr.

Cornelia was blessed with several accomplishments including her education in Business Administration that lead to her career as a Medical Office Administrator and Real Estate Broker. Cornelia’s love for poetry inspired her to become a published poet with several copyrighted poems, including “The Backside of Liberty” that was acknowledged by letter from President George W. Bush. She was a professional seamstress that could upholster furniture and include matching drapes if needed! She bowled on not one, but TWO leagues receiving several trophies and awards. Did you know she would go fishing and catch the biggest fish in the lake? Now, anyone who has had the pleasure of eating dinner in her home can attest that her holiday dinners, homemade banana bread, apple pies, peach cobblers and chocolate cakes were absolutely divine, but the hot dinner rolls were the best you could ever imagine.

Mrs. Baker married the late William H. Baker Sr. in Coalwood W.V., and from this union 5 children were born. She is preceded in death by two daughters, Sharion Baker and Gwendolyn Collins (Victor), She is survived by her children, son William H. Baker Jr. (Maxine) of Buffalo, NY; daughter Jacquelyn V. Gunn of Greensboro, NC; and son Pernell Edward Baker (Gloria) of Silver Springs, MD. brother John Pratcher, sister Mary Pratcher, sister Naomi Nelson, 10 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 19 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
