Childs died suddenly about 4:30 p.m. Monday while at work in the tax assessor's office in the parish courthouse.
A graduate of LSU, he had taught at LSU and Northwestern State college at Natchitoches.
Childs is survived by his wife, the former Pearl Dunn, of Columbia; two brothers, Grady Childs, New Iberia, and Linus Childs, Opelousas, and one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Dupont, San Antonio.
