Died of disease while serving in the Union Army in the Civil War. Was in Company D, 113th Illinois Infantry.

Reports conflict as to which disease he died from. One says typhoid pneumonia. The other says inflammation of the bowels. Also the report which says he died of inflammation of the bowels says he died on July 3, 1863.

Inscription: In the U.S.A. At Camp Butler, Ill. July 4, 1863 Aged 32 Yrs

Also has a Grand Army of the Republic marker.
