Joe enlisted in the Navy and served during World War II on the U.S.S. Enterprise naval aircraft carrier. On December 15, 1951, Joe married Betty Lee Tharp. They were married 68 years at the time of her passing. Joe and Betty farmed for many years milking cows, raising chickens and cattle. One of Joe’s proudest accomplishments was donating the funds to build the current Farmer Community Building. He continued to support the Farmer Community Building and cemetery throughout the remainder of his life.
Joe is survived by nephew David Howard and wife Belinda of Kingston, Arkansas; niece Janet (Howard) Braudrick and husband Dale of Springdale, Arkansas; niece Teresa (Howard) Wood and husband Scott of Lowell, Arkansas; nephew Hubert “Todd” Howard and wife Cheryl of Berryville, Arkansas; many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Betty Lee (Tharp) Howard, June 25, 2019. Also preceded in death were his parents Roy Lee and Jessie Pearl (Seitz) Howard, brother Dallas Lee Howard and brother Hubert Artis Howard.
A graveside service will be held 9:30 am on Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Farmer Cemetery with Brother Craig Villines officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Memorial donations may be made to Farmer Cemetery and Community Center, PO Box 783, Berryville, Arkansas, 72616.
