James Reid Moncur (Jim), 75, left this world to meet the Lord on August 5th, 2019 following a brief illness at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Georgia. Jim was born and reared in Glasgow, Scotland. As a young man, he enjoyed swimming and even trained for the Olympics. He enjoyed winning awards and trophies for his determination. Following completion of trade school, he worked in ship and bridge buildings in various countries. At the age of 21, he followed his dream and flew to Canada to work. When he arrived for a pre arranged job with less than five dollars in his pocket, he learned that the job didn’t exist. Canadian authorities found him a job with Otis Elevators where he worked until he was recruited by Cives Steel in Bon, New York. One of his proudest moments was when he was sworn as a citizen of the USA in 1983. Also in 1983, he was sent to Thomasville on a temporary assignment, where he fell in love with the area and served 34 years with the company. In 1984, he married the love of his life, Dianne Winnie. Following both of their retirements, travel was utmost important to Jim. They enjoyed resorts in the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and Jamaica multiple times. They also went on nine cruises visiting most of the Carribean Islands. Prior to his illness, plans were being made to see more of the USA but they managed to visit Las Vegas. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Alexander Moncur and Janet (Herrigan) Moncur of Glasgow, Scotland, and nephew James of Switzerland, his in-laws Walter and Pearl (Stubbs) WInnie, Mable Blazicek of Thomasville, Georgia, Debra Smith, Overland Park, Kansas. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Dianne and brother Richard of Scotland, sister-in-law Kaye Rose of Thomasville. Nieces and nephews include Peter, Janet, Michelle, Amy (Chris) Jamie, and Michael Rose. Great nieces and nephews include Matthew, Justin, Ceferina, Jordan, Jaylen, Kyrie, Nicole, and Savannah. He also held dear as sister, Rita Knopick in Pennsylvania. Jim was a strong man and a good friend to many. He believed in helping others and did so with every chance he got. He was a loving, supportive, and loyal husband to Dianne. She best describes this with a verse from a Gladys Knight song, “If anybody should write my life story for whatever reason there might be, you’ll be there between the page of pain and glory because you’re the best thing that ever happened to me.” He will be deeply missed by all who love him. The family will receive friends at Whiddon Shiver Funeral Home on Thursday, August 8, 2019 from 6:30-8:00 pm. Burial services will be arranged privately by family at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery, in Thomasville, Georgia.
