Kathryn was daughter of Albert Raymond Bryan and Lydia Odella Johnson Bryan. They lived in Alexandria, Va. during her childhood. In 1944, Kathryn married James Cham Bruce from Atlanta, Georgia, and they had one son. Sadly, her husband died in an accident in 1953. She married William Holt McKenzie from Moore County, North Carolina, and they had three more children. After Bill retired from the USAF, he and Kathryn returned to Moore County to make their home. Kathryn had numerous medical conditions which she fought hard against. Her last wish was for her body to be donated for medical research in hopes she could help someone else. She spent her last days in UNC-Chapel Hill hospital where her body was donated per her request. There is no grave or heastone to mark her life and death, so this memorial is in her honor.
