A native of Greene County, he was the son of the late Pinkney and Elizabeth Arthur. He was a farmer, a carpenter, coffin maker and a bookkeeper for a wholesale company. He worked 20 years for a laundry, was an instructor in the CCC Camp and worked for many years with Boys Scouts and youth.
Surviving are a sister, Betty Bostic; and several nieces and nephews.
