Calvin Gerald Causey went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 4, 2019. He was 89 years old.
Calvin was born on April 18, 1930 in Columbus, Georgia to Moss S. and Norma Mae Causey. He grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and attended Emory University, where he graduated in 1952. He then attended Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, graduating in 1955. Calvin entered the U.S. Army as a chaplain in 1956, and served in numerous assignments in the United States and overseas, to include combat service in Vietnam. During his service he earned the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Senior Parachutist Badge, and numerous other awards and decorations. Calvin retired at the rank of Colonel in 1976 after 20 years of active duty, and then served as a chaplain at the Veteran’s Administration in Leavenworth, Kansas from 1977-1992. He moved in 1992 to his beloved Hanging Dog community near Murphy, North Carolina (his ancestral homeland), followed by residence in Toms River, New Jersey from 2003-2018. His final home was at Regency Retirement Village in Huntsville, Alabama.
Calvin was an ordained minister and life-long member of the Church of the Nazarene. He was a friend to many and loved by all who knew him. He blessed many people over his long life by his kind and gracious heart, his words of wisdom, and his enduring faithfulness.
Calvin is survived by his wife, Nadine F. Causey of Toms River, NJ; his sons, Calvin G. Causey, Jr. (wife: Vicki) of Rowlett, TX, Nathanael P. Causey (wife: Pam) of Huntsville, AL, and Charles M. Causey (wife: Lauri) of Manassas, VA; his daughter, Carol P. Mahan (husband: Steve) of Plano, TX; his step-children, John C. Capo (wife: Diane) of East Stroudsburg, PA and Cathy M. Riccoboni (husband: Pete) of Toms River, NJ; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Jean (Norgrove) Causey (d. 1992), his parents, Moss & Norma Mae Causey, and his brothers, Moss S. Causey, Jr. and Jack C. Causey.
Funeral services will be conducted on August 23, 2019 at the Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, Kansas, followed by burial with full military honors at the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
