Elva Mae Turner, 87, of West Frankfort, passed away at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Herrin Hospital.

Elva was born on Feb. 28, 1918, in Chaffee, Mo., to Charles and Maude (Kinder) Lingle. She married Wayne Westray on Sept. 10, 1936, in West Frankfort. He preceded her in death as a result of a coal mining accident on Feb. 21, 1941. She later married Roy Turner on Sept. 2, 1944, and he preceded her on death in Nov. 11, 1962.

Survivors include two sons, Jack Westray and wife Dottie and John Turner and wife Melody, all of West Frankfort; one daughter, Donna McCollum and husband Tim of Chandler, Ariz.; one brother, Charles "Red" Lingle of West Frankfort; and grandchildren, Jocelyn Turner, Dennis Westray, David Westray, Kim Dowling, Mike McCollum, Michelle McCollum, Robin Breidenbach and Kris Hills. She is also survived by special friends at Heritage Woods and a special friend, Mildred Shepherd.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Ceclia Lingle; and brothers, Carl, Earnest and Tom Lingle.

Elva worked for Sangamo Electric until its closure in 1962. She moved to Decatur where she worked as a ward clerk for Macon County Hospital. She returned to West Frankfort in 1970 to work for UMWA Hospital training other ward clerks until her retirement. She was a life long member of Northern Baptist Church in West Frankfort.

Services were held in the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with Pastors Gene Fox and Donald Riedel officiating. Burial in the Denning Cemetery in West Frankfort.
