Cecelia LaFontaine Hicks, age 90, of Glen St. Mary, Florida passed away on August 1, 2019 in Community Hospice care provided by Macclenny Nursing and Rehab in Macclenny, Florida. She was born to the late Lorenzo Dow Pursley and Rose Ethel Hatcher Pursley on March 20, 1929 in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Cele attended Rawson High School in Rawson, Ohio. She married the late Aaron Hicks in 1948 and they resided for most of their 50 years together in New Stark, Ohio. Cele was a long-time employee of Saint Rita's Hospital in Lima, Ohio where her hard work and determination promoted her to the Supervisor of Central Services. She was a member of the Riley Creek Baptist Church in Bluffton, Ohio while she lived in Ohio and a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Macclenny, Florida for the past seven years, while residing in Glen St. Mary, Florida. Cele was an avid reader and loved visiting the local library on a regular basis. In her younger days she enjoyed going to Blue Grass concerts to hear her husband play the fiddle. When she moved to Florida one of her greatest joys was to join her son, Aaron and his wife, dancing and listening to a live band at the Friday Night Dance Club. Cele made friends wherever she went and loved living life to the fullest. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends but leaves wonderful memories for all who knew her. Cele is predeceased by her parents, loving husband Aaron Hicks in 1999; her two youngest sons, Thomas Carl Hicks in 1982 and Douglas Hicks in 2018. Cele was the last remaining sibling in her family of nine brothers and sisters. Cele is survived by her two oldest sons, Terry Lynn Hicks of Wartrace, TN and Aaron Donavon (Christine) Hicks of Glen St. Mary, FL; grandchildren, Troy (Tonya) Hicks, Amber Hicks, Heather (James) Branch, and Holly (Danny) Knight; 6 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. Cele's services will be held at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2018 with Pastor David Lindquist officiating. Interment will be at Hasson Cemetery in Hancock County. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family has requested in lieu of sending flowers that donations be made to Community Hospice 5450 Ramona Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32205.
