Donald E. Fritz, age 89, of Findlay, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2019. He was born on May 30, 1930 in Jasper, Indiana to Hubert Fritz and Virginia (Wehr) Fritz. After his father's death when Don was 4 years old, he was raised by his loving mother and special stepfather (pop), Ed Fischer. Don is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Suzanne, who passed away at age 5. Don is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Betty (Heeke). Also surviving are a son: Mike (Ann) Fritz of Maumee; daughters: Pam Leichty and Suzan (Allen) Eckert both of Findlay; grandchildren: Casey (Megan) Leichty, Corey (Andrea) Leichty, Kari (Evan) Jackson, Haley (Eric) Kersting and Curtis Eckert; great grandchildren: Benjamin, Josiah, Dean, Talon, Beckett, Caroline and Leah. In 1957, Don's family and parents moved to Findlay and opened the Western Auto Store that later became the Bike Emporium. For decades, it was a great place to meet and socialize. He was a member of St. Michael Church, the K of C, and the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Findlay Moose Lodge. Don proudly served in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller during the Korean War. He loved reading, the outdoors, cycling, bird watching and animals, especially the family dogs. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay where a scripture service will be held at 7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, downtown, located at 617 West Main Cross Street, Findlay. Father Michael Zacharias will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Memorials may be made to the church in his memory.
