Kenneth Daire Fletcher was born September 8, 1929 in Minden, Louisiana and died July 27, 2019, in Sugar Land Texas at the age of 89. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Inez Fletcher, and two sisters, Berie Redman and Theo Peavy. Ken is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Frances Fletcher; two daughters Mona Hilliard (married to Dr. Russell Hilliard) and Dena Yasko (married to Dr. David Yasko), both of Sugar Land Texas; three grandchildren, Kent Hilliard, Dr. Shauna McGrath (married to Joel) and Reece Fletcher Thompson (married to Hannah); as well as two great grandchildren, Cora and Graham McGrath. Ken and Mary were married on August 4, 1950 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Ken graduated from High School in Shongaloo, Louisiana in 1946. His early career included time as a salesman for Homer Tobacco, Candy and Drug Company in Homer Louisiana; a salesman for the Bateman Wholesale Drug Company in Shreveport, Louisiana; and a part time employee at the Wilson-Bearden Pharmacy in Magnolia Arkansas.
Ken was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served as a dental technician during the Korean War. He graduated from Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas University) in Magnolia, Arkansas, on May 28, 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Commerce. Upon graduation Ken was employed by Royal Globe Insurance Companies as a claims supervisor in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1963, he moved his family to San Antonio, Texas where he worked in a similar position with USAA. Ken and the family moved to Houston in 1968 where Ken worked in various industries until he he found great success as the operator of an Exxon Car Care Service Center in northwest Houston.
Ken was an entrepreneur at heart and one of his greatest business pleasures was owning several Hartz Fried Chicken franchises. He was a hard worker who cooked, cleaned, opened, closed, served, scouted, and even worked as General Manager of the regional office for a time. After retiring, he and Mary moved to Huntsville, Texas and lived out in the country where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, observing the wildlife, riding his tractor, and watching sports from his easy chair. Ken and Mary loved to entertain friends, play dominoes, and spend time with family. Ken loved to cook for other people and watch them enjoy eating what he had cooked; it was rare that you went home empty handed after a meal. In 2015, Ken and Mary moved to Sugar Land, Texas to be near their family.
Ken was a Christian. He was a proud member of Westbury Church of Christ, where at one time he served as an elder. While living in Huntsville, Ken and Mary were active members at the Huntsville Church of Christ.
