Nathaniel and his brother Amos Lockhart served in Company I of the 2nd Mississippi Infantry. Neither of them survived. Amos died of phenomina at Camp Fisher on December 23, 1861, and almost a year later his brother Nathaniel was killed in the Battle of Sharpsburg. The muster cards state he was "wounded in the battle of Sharpsburg, MD and left on the field".. In reading the history of the battle and the burials, i think it is safe to say he is one of the 2000 unknown confederate boys buried here.
