Lura Sharpe Harley Cook, 84, died peacefully Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at Carolinas Medical Center. She was born in Gaston, SC, the daughter of Henry and Minnie Sharpe. She had nine brothers and sisters that she loved dearly. As the mother of six children, Mrs. Cook devoted her life to her family and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband James D. Harley, Sr. in 1985 and her daughter Brenda H. Wood in 2001, and is survived by her children, Rainey Underwood, Daniel Harley, and Cyndi Harper, all of Charlotte NC, Kathy Scala of Raleigh, NC, and James D. Harley, Jr. of Lakeland, FL; sister, Wilma Pound; brother, Boyd Sharpe, both of Gaston, SC. Mrs. Cook was the proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren. In 1990, she married Bill Cook and they were happily married until his death in 1997.
A service to celebrate her life will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 5, 2007, at Myers Park Baptist Church, where she was a member. The Family will receive friends in the Heaton Hall Foyer immediately following the service. The family would like to thank the staff at the Haven in the Village at Carolina Place for the loving kindness and care given to Mrs. Cook during her time there. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Myers Park Baptist Church Sunshine Fund, 1900 Queens Rd. Charlotte, 28207. Harry and Bryant Company is serving her family.
