Gene and Janice enjoyed spending 30 years wintering in Arizona. He also enjoyed his guns and knives, camping, the Spencer Fair, westerns, court TV, game shows, and recalling memories of his Magnolia High School class. He was especially fond of Janice’s homemade cinnamon rolls, Erika’s homemade pumpkin pie, Kathy’s homemade ice cream, Greg’s T-bones on the grill, and Beth’s shakes. He enjoyed telling stories of drag racing his ’57 Chevy and cruzing the streets with Janice in his convertible.
Gene passed away on August 2, 2019, with his family by his side, at Rose Vista Nursing Home, at the age of 82 years, eight months and 20 days.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Janice Benson of Logan, Iowa; four children, Julie and her husband Bill Wegner of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Philip Benson and his wife Erika of Logan, Iowa; Beth and her husband Bryce Kelderman of Tracy, Iowa, and Kathy and her husband Greg Snodgrass of Logan, Iowa; eight grandchildren, three great grand-children with one on the way; three sisters, Lois Mae Collison of Blencoe, Iowa, Marilyn Southern of Denver, Colorado and Shirley Stadler of Blair, Nebraska and many other relatives and friends.
