William enlisted with the Royal Australian Air Force as a laborer and general hand on 6th May 1941. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal on 1st December 1942 and he embarked from Townsville for New Guinea on 10th October 1943. He served continually overseas till he returned to Australia on 9th January 1945 disembarking at Brisbane. William was appointed an acting Sergeant on 6th August 1945 and he was discharged on 28th November 1945.
