His death date was in Marriage & Death Notices, Charlestons Morning Post & Daily Advertizer, published in S. C. Historical & Genealogical mag. vol 20. A source indicated that he married Mary Elizabeth "Eliza" Burnham, daughter of Thomas & Mary Burnham (who married a Mr. Cook & also John Currie) & had siblings, Thomas Burnham and Ann Burnham (Ann married a Mr. Potts). In Charleston by 1772 & executor to Edward Cook’s will along with his wife Mary 14 Nov. 1773 (Caroline T. Moore's book, Abstracts of Wills of State of SC 1670-1784, 3 vols., published about 1964, page 223). Sells slaves to John Bold for 200 guineas (S. C. State Archives, misc. records book QQ p690).

Pott & Mary Eliza had 4 children: John Shaw (born 26 August 1769); Esther May Shaw (baptized 4/18/1773, according to Register St. Phillips Parish 1720-1758) who married William Rivers and William Starling Rivers; William Archibald Shaw (baptized 10 March 1779, according to Register St. Phillips Parish 1720-1758).
