BLOOMINGTON — Daniel J. McClellan, 72, of Bloomington, passed away on Thursday (Aug. 1, 2019) at OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
His services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Park Hill Mausoleum, Bloomington, with Pastor Rogers Byambaasa officiating. Entombment will follow the service at the mausoleum. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. Memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
Dan was born on Jan. 11, 1947, in Bloomington, to John T. and Eileen Prahm McClellan.
Dan married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Marialys Pare, on June 8, 1968. They joyfully celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2018 with their family and friends. He passed shortly after their 51st anniversary this year.
He is survived by his wife, Marialys; their children, Kathleen McClellan Sain and J. Matthew (Dylan Waguespack) McClellan; grandchildren, Luke Sain and Sasha Sain and his sister, Janet Blue.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
After high school Dan attended Illinois State University and received his bachelor's degree and went on to further his education at the University of Illinois where he received his master's degree. Dan started his career as an agriculture science teacher at Mansfield High School and continued to teach and mentor many people throughout his life. He was an accomplished businessman in agriculture and ended his fruitful career as the owner of Professional Placements, where he handled countless mergers, acquisitions, and placements.
He and Marialys loved to travel and spent their winters in Naples, Fla. Together they traveled to nearly every state and several foreign countries. England was always his favorite. Dan was as comfortable in a fine restaurant or touring a European castle as he was sitting in a goose blind or tramping through brush, hunting pheasants.
More than any of this, Dan was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a friend to everyone he met. He was a man of compassion, character, and treated everyone he encountered with fairness. Dan was a shining example of how you are supposed to love and care for your family. There are far too many wonderful memories to list – but the common thread in them is his love of laughter, thought, and enjoying life to its fullest. He was caring until the end. His final wishes, as he passed with his family by his side, were to remember him as he was in life and not to be sad about the difficult final year. Cracking jokes and making sure we knew we were loved, he passed on. The world has lost someone truly special.
