Forrest Biddix, age 89, of Maple Road in Spruce Pine, the Altapass community, died Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at the Blue Ridge Regional hospital in Spruce Pine.

Born on June 23, 1930 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Stacy and Ruth Hogan Biddix. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lola Wise Biddix who passed away in 2012. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Biddix Hall and a brother EJ Biddix.

Forrest was a member of the Altapass Church of God and was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War and he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was proud of being born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. He enjoyed loafing on back roads and the Blue Ridge Parkway was his favorite road to travel. He was known as a great storyteller and loved sharing stories with his children and grandchildren. He never met a stranger and he loved and lived for his family and granddaughters. He also had a great talent of being an animal whisperer.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughter; Nora McKinney of Spruce Pine; his son; Joey Biddix and wife, Linda of Ft. Mill, SC; his granddaughter; Heather Biddix; Gary McKinney, the father of his granddaughters; Abigail McKinney and Paige McKinney; his great grandson; Ethan Silver; his brothers; Wendell and Bud Biddix; and his sisters; Agnes Burleson, Faye Wise, Atlas ‘Atchie’ Benton, and Linda McKinney.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service for Forrest Biddix on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Altapass Church of God with the Rev’s. Steve Davis and Ron Leasure officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Saturday, August 3, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Altapass Church of God. Interment will be in the McKinney Gap Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter of the D.A.V.
