Mildred Tenold "Millie" Peterson, 94 passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018. She was born August 18, 1924, in Harding County, SD, and was the daughter of the late Peder and Esther Tenold. She had been a Peninsula resident since 1944 when she and her husband James Peterson moved here from Rapid City, SD. Millie was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, where for many years she was an active member of the altar guild. She and Jim were avid square dancers for over 30 years and members of the Swinging Squares. They also loved to travel and toured with friends all over Europe and the US. She enjoyed gardening and belonged to the Edgewood Garden Club, liked playing bridge as well as sewing. Millie also volunteered at Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Library for many years. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Mrs. Peterson was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, James Peterson; brothers, Orvin Tenold, Willy Tenold and sisters Alpha Hulse, Luella Steinbach and Florence Peterson; as well as her special friend Frank Strehle who gave her joy and companionship after her husband passed away. She is survived by two children, Russell Peterson and his wife, Sandra, of Seaford and Beverly Wood and her husband, Dale, of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Ryan Wood and his wife, Jacqueline, of Liberty, MO, Cristy Moody and her husband, David, of King George, VA, Douglas Peterson and his wife, Keely of Las Vegas, NV, and Billy Peterson of Seaford; five great-grandchildren, Atlas and Elena Peterson, Nathan and Natalie Moody and Julian Garza-Jones. She is also survived by her brother Robert Tenold and his wife Norma of Reva, SD, and her sisters Agnes Steinbach of Hettinger, ND, Delores Coffield and Bertha Nelson of Spearfish, SD.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 10, 2018 beginning at 1:30 PM at Peninsula Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 2:30 PM. A private family graveside service will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park.
