His life story began on August 4, 1949, born to the parentage of Clarence and Inez Collier in Cedartown, Georgia. He grew up sharing his life with three siblings, Glafues and Clarence (Tuck) Collier predeceasing him. After giving his life to Christ, he attended Friendship Church. He attended Cedar Hill High, where he would later graduate. After his graduation, he moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1967. Once settled, he began employment with Chrysler Automotive where he remained employed until his retirement in 2002.
After moving to Detroit, a new chapter was written when Terry met and married Janice Jones. To this union one child was born, Jeffrey D. Collier. In 1993, Terry went to visit a friend in New York City. It was during this trip that he met Yvonne Gail Abbot, and three years later they were married. The two lived in Canton, Michigan for 19 years and later relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina.
