Karen was born February 4th, 1954 in Twin Falls, Idaho to the late Marie and Doug Kafvelstrom. She grew up in Boise, ID and attended Borah High School, where she was in the graduating class of 1972. She then went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force from 1978-1982. Using the skills she honed in the military she continued her work as a Computer Technician in a civilian role for Telos Field Engineering in Ft. Rucker, Alabama. She worked her way up through the ranks and eventually became part of the management team and eventually used that experience to become a purchasing manager for a large Broadcasting Network in Virginia. She enjoyed her career, family was everything to Karen. In 1994, she happily left her job to take care of her grandchildren, even moving to from Portsmouth, VA to Kernersville, NC to stay close to them. She loved Kernersville since moving here in 2007 and became active in the Kernersville Newcomers Group and the Quilting Guild of High Point. Through these organizations she has made many long-time friends. She loved her family and friends above everything else. She was talented and creative, equally good at quilting and stained glass.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Lynn Thacker and her neice, Autumn Winters.
