Loretta Francis Woods passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, peacefully in her sleep at her home in Winona, Missouri at the age of 80. She was born on October 31, 1938, in Bartlett, Missouri, to Nelson and Becie (Snelson) McDowell. She was raised by her grandmother Carrie Snelson after her mother passed away just thirteen days after she was born. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Jackie Earl Woods on June 27, 1956 and to this union three daughters were born, Twila, Deborah and Carol.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gladys and Ed Woods; one daughter, Carol Atchison; infant brother, Norman Dale; brother, G.R. McDowell; sister-in-law, Joan McDowell; brother’s-in-law, Tom Woods and Roger (Chud) Woods; two son’s-in-law, Tom Atchison and Dallas Thompson; and one grandson, Steven Atchison.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jack of 63 years; two daughters, Twila Thompson and Debbie McBride (Mearl); ten grandchildren, Jonathan Mensendick (Emily), Jennifer Scott (Joe), Laura Scott (Johnny), Katelyn Smith (Chris), Robert Thompson (Clara), Tracy Norris, Michelle Marigoni (Blake), Ricky McBride (Mercedeze), Thomas Atchison (Frannie) and Jacob Woods; fourteen great-grandchildren, Keaton Mensendick, Porter Mensendick, Canaan Johnston, Chevy Johnston, Ryan Lockhart, Huxley Smith, Elizabeth Marigoni, Glen Thompson, Joseph Thompson, Lindsay Norris, Holli Rutledge, Ashley Sites, Liam Atchison and Adrian Atchison; two sister’s-in-law, Sherry Woods (Greg) and Alice Woods; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Loretta lived her entire life in Shannon County. She began work immediately after high school at Paramount Cap Factory and worked there for sixteen years while starting her family. She lived in Bartlett near where she was born until 1970 when she moved to Winona so she could operate her business, West Side Package. The package store opened in 1973, she poured her heart and soul into her store. She quickly became a mom and grandma to all of her customers. Loretta was known for her cooking and especially her popcorn balls at Halloween and her spectacular Christmas houses in the winter. She cherished her family and had a special love for her grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held at Pine Lawn Cemetery Saturday, August 3, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. The family will receive their friends from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at House of Prayer, Winona, Missouri. Interment will be in Pine Lawn Cemetery, Winona, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
